You're referring to the disk image backup? For MySQL that is not a dump! The point is that you can be sure that MySQL data in a file copy or disk image is valid if and only if MySQL was shut down without error before the copy/image was made.
(For future reference, before you let anybody upgrade your computer, take a mysqldump backup.)
Is your image of the entire disk, or of c:\program files as you suggested?
