Connecting C++ and MySQL database

Hi,

I am using Linux Fedroa Core 5 32+ bit OS and MySQL 5.0. I would like to connect a C++ program to a MySQL database that allows me to create a completely new database in MySQL, edit, modify, delete and update records and tables within it. But I can't find much help on the net. Can any one please let me know as what plug-ins connectors etc are required in order to make the connection work. Please give me the urls where I can find them if required. I am also looking for a simple piece of code that demonstrates the connection between C++ and MySQL.
