Hello Gerry,

Yes, this is a linking problem, it needs to link against the client library (and most likely a few other libraries). To assist you with this a tool called mysql_config is included. We have a manual page describing how to compile using it at:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/building-clients.html

(the instructions should be the same with standalone Connector/C)
