Fixed it.
Added to config.ini
[api]
hostname=192.168.0.3
NodeId=50
and deleted the cache file /mysql-cluster/ndb_30_config.bin.1.
Had tried adding an id to the [mysqld] entry (as the docs say [mysqld] and [api] are synonomous) but I think ndb_mgmd read the cache and fooled me.
