mysql++-2.0.4 build under RHEL4 x86_64 with MySQL 5.12beta

Has anyone been able to rpmbuild mysql++.spec (v2.0.4) under RedHat EL4 on 64 bit hardware and MySQL 5.12 beta?

I encounted the following error from rpmbuild:
checking for MySQL library directory... configure: error: Didn't find mysqlclient library in '/usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql /usr/local/lib/mysql /opt/mysql/lib/mysql /usr/lib/mysql /usr/local/mysql/lib /usr/local/lib /opt/mysql/lib /usr/lib'
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.35291 (%prep)

RPM build errors:
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.35291 (%prep)

I tried to install both the x86_64 and the x386 rpms (in hopes that /usr/lib/mysql would be in the x386 versio). However, rpm would not permit this due to a couple of file conflicts.

So, if anyone has achieved a sucessful build I would appreciate any insight you can offer.
