Hello,
I've got the same problem with MySQL 5.5.22 on XPe:
- MySQLInstanceConfig fails to complete - my.ini is edited manually
- mysqld.exe starts as a service and logs all OK (see log below), but:
- mysql.exe fails to connect with error code 10061
- the configured port is not open (tested with telnet and look@lan)
MySQL server 4.0 works perfectly on that system.

The server error log, my.ini and service configuration look very much the same as on the XPpro, where it runs happily.

mysqld error log:

Basically, it looks like mysqld thinks it is listening, but it isn't.
I'd appreciate any help.
