visual studio 2010 academic and MySQL

hello friends
I have downloaded mysql connector 5.5 on window xp . I am trying to connect MySQL from VS 2010 academic version.lcan see MySQL Database in change data source window, add reference to mysql dll,I Cannot start mysql55 service on local computer. error:1067 the process terminated unexpectedly.
can someone tell me which MySQL connector is compatible for window xp and vs 2010 academic version?
