MySQL Installer fails at check and upgrade database

My Guesses
1)I installed it using my account name which has local account administrator, therefore not root@localhost.
2)There was no root user setup, therefore no root@localhost
3)I tried creating a root user and password and retried
All results are "Connection fail."

No option to change the user name

I got frustrated and hit cancel and it asked if I wanted to abort the install?
replied no, did not want to mess things up worse
