the upgrade must be done manually, the installer doesn't support upgrades between major release (5.5 to 5.6 or 5.7 or any combination) only upgrades between same series (5.6.22 to 5.6.27)
you could install 5.7 server and then use Workbench to use a data migration wizard or follow the documentation to do a manual upgrade
