Install stops at Configuration file stage

Hi,

When trying to install MySQL, after unsuccessfully trying update MySQL Connector Net 6.9.9 (I have had mysql working before on this machine), the process stops at Configuration File stage (2nd stage in list of about 10 steps) and a red cross appears to the left of name of this step; I then cannot go any further as "Next" button is greyed out.

I have tried to uninstall the MySQL Connector Net 6.9.9 file from the Remove Programs section of Control Panel, but that does not work. I then tried to locate the file and add it to the path of the Repair command of Uninstall Program section of Control Panel, but it appears that the file is no longer on my system (tried to search it).

I am stumped.

I am using Windows 7.
