Unable to login to MySQL after clean install

Hi,
I have installed MySQL 8.0.25.0 on my Windows 10 the install was clean no errors but when I launch local instance in MySQL workbench as root I type the password I get the following error: Cannot Connect to Database Server Your connection attempt failed for user 'root' to the MySQL server at localhost:3306: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'(using password:YES)....
I know the password is correct as I go back to modify install it ask for root password and confirms its correct.
