Did this issue got resolved?

I have the same issue. I can retrieve the data from the MySQL DB running in AWS via the get data ODBC MySQL path in Excel. I can also connect via the MySQL workbench and other 3rd party tools using this DB. However the MySQL plugin for excel gives me the same error as described above and we would like to have this option for the ease of data maintenance through Excel.

There are some threads on the internet suggesting to downgrade the ODBC connector back to version 8.0.26, but for many reasons we don't want to go into that direction.

Is the plugin for Excel no longer being maintained for newer versions?
