Thank you, Pravi. I deleted a lot from the Registry, and am to the point where the installer asks me for the current root password. I have tried six different passwords that I can remember using, including a blank field. But each time I click the "Check" button, I get a red X and cannot proceed.
However, after opening Services, I can see that the server is not running.
I chose to install v.8.0.41, not sure if this makes a difference, as well as choosing the "Use strong password encryption" option.
So, perhaps I missed a Registry entry?
Well, I cancelled the configuration, then clicked Next and it asked about Bootstrap. I skipped this, hope that does not hurt me later! And now I can finish.
It appears that I cannot start the server until I get the correct password. Do you have any ideas?
