Hi Mike,
If you are being asked to provide the current root password it means that there are still leftover files from the previous installation. Typically it means that the data directory still exists maybe at C:\ProgramData\MySQL\MySQL Server x.x. Do you want to keep this old installation or do you want to completely wipe it off?

If you want to remove it I recommend ensuring that the MySQL Windows Service is not running and then delete the folder I mentioned. After that you should be able to start with a clean installation.

Did you install MySQL Router as well? I would think that is why you got the Bootstrap part.
