Excel vs MySQL

Hi
I am a complete newbie and wanted some advice on whether I should install/use MySQL for my growing database. I currently have a growing database as an excel workbook. The database has >110,000 entries and grows at >10,000 per month.

-Entries are all text.
-Each time i add new entries (~10,000) i need to highlight any duplicates that may be there and remove them
-I've managed to do this in excel, however as the database grows, comparing new entries with existing ones is taking considerable time on excel. Also a majority of times Excel does not completely identify all duplicates

So my question is
Will an alternative such as MySql make this process any quicker?
Am I less likely to get errors? i.e. inability of excel to identify all duplicates

Thanks in advance for your help
