I am also having this problem. Any assistance would be appreciated.
EDIT: I have solved the issue for myself.
(1) Make sure you have downloaded the right kind of ODBC for your copy of Microsoft Office. I had x64 for a x32 copy, and this led to problems.
(2) Try this in Excel: Data --> From other sources --> From Data Connection Wizard --> ODBC DSN --> <yoursourcename> --> select table, next --> finish --> Pivot Table
If (2) fails, try putting the Pivot Table in a separate sheet (during the last step)
