Jeff, I would try NO_BINARY_RESULT connection option (add NO_BINARY_RESULT=1 to your connection string).

If it does not help or the solutin is not acceptable for you - file a bug report with problem desctription and odbc trace attached.

And please post your ODBC related question in ODBC forum.
