Hi Rob,
Thanks for writing in our forums!

Did you try typing the word "Text" in the Data Type combo box on the specific column you are trying to export a large amount of characters?? Not all MySQL Data Types appear in the combo box, by design only the more commonly used data types appear there but users can type in any valid MySQL data type.

Please try typing "Text" in the data type, if that does not work you can file a bug for the issue in http://bugs.mysql.com
