Thanks for your reply.
This seems to be a bug in the MySQL Installer since as you point out the MySQL for Excel stand-alone MSI does check for the VSTO prerequisite.
The MySQL Installer team may already be aware of this problem, since I see a couple of Installer bugs in
http://bugs.mysql.com/ related to Excel.
If I have more news about this I will reply later.
