Thanks for the detailed explanation!
As I understand this, you have already created a connection in MySQL Workbench that works, and that is "Local instance wampmysqld64", and that connection is shown within MySQL for Excel.
If instead of editing and testing the connection, you double-click it, what happens? In that case please check if there is any error message displayed. Opening and testing a connection follow different code paths, so if the connection can be opened with Workbench I expect the exact same connection to be opened by MySQL for Excel as well.
I am inclined to think you may have found a bug in the Test Connection functionality with a MySQL instance created by WAMP, and I will suggest you to raise a bug at bugs.mysql.com so we can invest more time on this.
