Hi Juan,
When exactly are you getting the "Connection attempt failed" error message?
That error message is normally thrown when you attempt to connect to a MySQL Server and a connection can't be established because the server name (or IP address) is wrong, the port specified is wrong, or the host is simply down and not accepting connections.

Based on this, it looks like you have a connection in the connections list that you are attempting to open, but you say that you are unable to add or edit connections.

So, are you trying to add/edit a connection or after you add/edit a connection you attempt to open it and get that error message?
