Hi Brent,
Sorry for the late response.
This looks like a bug in MySQL for Excel, but to be able to exactly know if it is we need to know how to duplicate this problem.

You mentioned you are trying to connect to a MySQL Server in the cloud, and that you successfully connect through MySQL Workbench. Have you tried looking at the MySQL for Excel log to see if there is any error message there but that it's not displayed on the screen?

The log is in "%APPDATA%\Oracle\MySQL for Excel\".
