I think I have the problem too, although the initial post isn't very clear.

I have MySQL for Excel installed. I can selected it on the Data tab in Excel. It appears in a pane on the right. However, there aren't any connections listed below "Open a MySQL Connection". It does have the New Connection and Manage Connections buttons. I can add a new connection, or manage connections, both of which open MySQL Workbench, but in no case can I get the list of Local and Remote connections shown in the user docs, so I can't connect Excel to my database.
