Hello Bob.

How are you creating and opening the connection? When your application starts or when you need to perform an action against the database?

The exception that you're receiving is because the Server is closing the connection, by default the server has a time out to close unused connections even if are open.
I'll suggest you to open and use the connection just when you need it and not leaving it open for long time.
