Hello Dennis.

Are you trying to connect to a MSSQL database using the MySQL Connection dialog?
When you create a new connection in Visual Studio, it prompts you to select a driver for the connection (Microsoft Access, MSSQL Server, MySQL, Oracle Database, etc), by default there is a check box with the option "Always use this selection" already selected.
If you leave that option checked when you crate a MySQL connection, you will always see the MySQL connection dialog every time that you try to add a new connection. So if you are using the MySQL dialog to create a MSSQL connection maybe that is what is causing the problem.
To select a different provider (MSSQL maybe in this case) in the MySQL connection dialog just click on the button "Change..." that is at the top-right above the "Server Name" field and you will see the dialog to choose a different provider for your connection.

Please let us know if this resolves your issue or you need more help.

Thanks for your time.
