Hello Ulrich,

I've tested using Visual Studio 15.8.5 but was unable to reproduce the issue. It seems that the problem isn't related with having newer versions of Visual Studio, something else must be going on.

Is it possible for you to provide the MSI log? Said log will likely gives us the information needed to determine why the installation of Visual Studio can't be found by MySQL for Visual Studio. If you're not sure how to generate the log you simply need to run a cmd window and execute the following command:

msiexec /i <msi_path_and_name>.msi /L*V <log_name>.log

Another thought that comes to mind... You mention that MySQL Installer is also reporting the same error, is this happening whenever you try to select the product or whenever the installation is already in progress? It's possible that for some reason the registry keys being checked to validate that Visual Studio is installed don't exist. Is your OS 32 bit?

Regards,
Jose Ramirez.
