Shell Plugins - What is an unmanaged cluster? And how to make it a managed cluster?

I have set up group replication using three MySQL 8.0.17 databases on my Windows 10 PC. I have installed MySQL Shell 8.0.17

I have then followed the details from:

"https://mysqlserverteam.com/mysql-shell-plugins-introduction/";

and added the PLugins as described in this. However When I try and run them I am getting the error:

idc.getMembers: User-defined function threw an exception:
A session to a cluster instance is required: Dba.getCluster: This function is not available through a session to an instance belonging to an unmanaged replication group at init.js:11:12
in throw "A session to a cluster instance is required: " + err.message
^
(ScriptingError)

What is an "unmanaged cluster" and how do I make mine a managed cluster? I can't see anything in the documentation that even mentions the idea of a managed vs unmanaged cluster?
