mysqldump

Hi all
I'm trying to convert my database to an xml file, i am typingth following command into the mysql command line:
mysqldump --xml databasename > filename.xml
but each time i get an error sayin my syntax is wrong.
I am running on a windows O/S if that makes any difference.
Any help will be most apreciated.
