Thank you for your time and for your detailed reply.

I agree with you, yes we would not want to preferably use RAM and not swap memory for better performance. In our case tough we have a hardware limitation which prevents us from adding more RAM to the server.

With respect to your question on whether we are using InnoDB or MyISAM we are not aware as of now as to what we are using as we have just started using MySQL but we will work on finding this information.

What i can confirm through is that we have not changed any default settings which means that if either of these options (InnoDB or MyISAM) is a default option then that is what we are using.

We are using just one web application which is basically a social networking site and this is the only application that connects to MySQL database.
