Rick,thanks.Actually we have mutiple databases in our db server used by our application and we have 6 instances of Jboss, pooling connections to this server.
We calculated the 4000 number based on the summation of the max connection variable defined in connection pooling xml deployed in all these jboss instances..also the 1134 - 744 readings were taken almost at the same time.
