Automatically Evaluate Column Values?

Hey everybody,

I am relatively new to SQL and am setting up my first MySQL database.

Everything is going smoothly but i am wondering if it is possible to have some columns automatically perform calculations and modify the data in other columns when their value is changed.

I am basically trying to take an excel spreadsheet that does these kinds of operations and port it to a MySQL driven web system.

Will/Can MySQL handle these operations for me or should i go ahead and do it in PHP?
