MySQL and JDeveloper 10g DAF / BC4J

Hello All
I am new to this forum.

We are in the process of switching database and IDE and the top candidates are presently MySQL and Oracle JDeveloper 10g.
We think that both are super products but till now they do not seem very happy to work together. We have searched the Oracle forums
and got the impression that they don't care much about MySQL (understandably) One ventures out to call MySQL an 'awkward' database.

There is also a brief HowTo in the Oracle web site but it is very limited.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/MySql/MySQL_and_BC_HowTo.html
and
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/duff/mysql_and_oc4j3.html

Follwing these instructions we quickly managed to connect to our MySQL (Ver 4.1) database from 10g. We could see the table structures and indexes and browse data but that is as far as we could go.We are using Connector/J 3.0.15. When trying to use any of these tables to build a model or entity object, we get errors like 'type VARCHAR cannot have a size specified' or 'type DATE cannot have a size specified'. Also, the primary key is never found at this stage although we can see them when browsing the database in 10g itself.

However it is evident that some are using 10g+MySQL. (See Jesper Rasmussen's comment in this thread)

We were hoping someone on this forum has some experience in both 10g and MySQL and guide us to their proper setup
in a language that someone new to these products can understand.

We can consider other IDE's but we think that we are holding on to MySQL. We have seen Sun's Java One Creator but 10g seems to be hugely superior.
