Restarting the server after dropping a database fails with repeated messages in log:

2020-05-20 7:29:42 189 [Warning] InnoDB: Orphan table encountered during DROP DATABASE. This is possible if '`db-name`.`wp_commentmeta`.frm' was lost.
2020-05-20 7:29:42 189 [Warning] InnoDB: MySQL is trying to drop database `db-name`.`` though there are still open handles to table `db-name`.`wp_commentmeta`.

how do I recover from this situation. I'm not interested in the specific database but in all other schemata
