Are certain database names not supported or accepted in MySQL 8?

We are getting this error when trying to fetch a list of databases using our data management tool: “The given key was not present in the dictionary.” Could this be an error from MySQL8? Are there database names that are not acceptable or have a naming length limit in MySQL 8? Any relevant information will help.
