sql_async_enable

I'm trying to use Cognos Impromptu with Mysql using the odbc connector. In looking at the sql log files I see that cognos requests a lot of information from the mysql server, one of which is sql_async_enable. This return's with a "badmem" word. I think that this means it's not supported. However, I saw in earlier MyODBC documentation that sql_async_enable is supported at "level 2". Anyone know how to get it turned on?
