Could you describe the columns under discussion in terms of dependence/independence? My references do not include that language. The xx_id's are rather transparently keys to other tables and they are most certainly 1:1, 1:m or m:n because of the one field rental_id.

The graphic that comes with representing MySQL Workbench's analysis of Sakila show inventory_id and rental_id as being m:1 even though the sample records provided are 1:1 as near as I can tell.

Without details on the fields and tables involved, the examples at artfulsoftware are not very useful.

The illustration at http:\\www.stardata.it/sakila/sakila.html does not show rental_id at all.

Please, if anyone else has anything to add, feel free.
