Fixed-format row length and I/O efficiency
Is there any evidence to suggest that the I/O performance of fixed-format MyISAM tables is increased by having row lengths that are multiples of 4 bytes?
I created a fixed-format table with four "int" columns, aiming for a row length of 16, but "show table status" showed that the row length was 17. What purpose does the extra byte serve?
