well i think that the problem is about the way that i'm selecting from the tables.

i've tried to measure the hd-activity with some linux tools, and i remember that the hd was only at 10% of activity, so there must be some other bottle neck. that's why i now think about locks.

i've just used mytop-utility to look on the queries in my system. i found out that sometimes i have about 10-15 queries that are locked and are waiting for 1-2 queries that are beeing executed. i think that would not be so if i would use an engine with row level locking. but i'm not sure
