Thanks Rick,
My key_buffer is 4G which is almost 25% of the RAM. My application is subjected to heavy load of queries almost 1000/s.
Currently, I have 20 threads connected to mysql.

Another interesting observation. When increase the number of threads that my client application is using to connect to mysql, my performance is reducing. In terms of benchmark; with 80 client threads connected, i m getting an avg of 300MiliS, while with 20 threads, this value is 70MiliS.
Can anyone tell me why?
