Try the following

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'have_innodb';

If value is NO, then you will not be able to use InnoDB.
If value is DISABLED, you will have to enable InnoDB, either remove the skip-innodb option or you have to specify the tablespace (for version 3.23)

The other thing to check is to make sure your table is actually having the InnoDB storage engine, do a
SHOW CREATE TABLE tablename;
