One other suggestion besides Ingo's good reference is to ensure that you're using the query cache as effectively as possible. Utilizing the query cache will completely bypass the need for the key cache blocks for queries with exact matches in the query cache, and along with separate key caches for hot and warm blocks, would alleviate a lot of the pressure on the default key cache...
