You can try to set key_cache_block_size to 4k. But see also reference manual 7.4.6.5. Key Cache Block Size. The problem is that there is currently no way to influence the index block size. This is only computed from the key size.
I have an internal task on my plate to make the index block size configurable for every index. But other things have higher priority currently.
I'm not sure but I fear that a FLUSH TABLE will stop all writing threads until the flush is complete. That way you won't get any parallelism.
