Right, but if Mark meant that he wants to distribute a (MyISAM like) table over multiple files, then he should also check the MERGE engine: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/merge-storage-engine.html

Questions to the MERGE engine should go to the "MERGE" forum please.
