Please keep up your good work. I was especially glad whenever you jumped in in SQL questions. This is unfortunately not one of my strengths.
Back to your question:
Do you mean that you expected that MySQL should be configured so that it uses more memory? While I would agree in the general case, this kind of tuning is usually done to lower the I/O rate. But I won't expect that it would solve the CPU time problem. I might have misunderstood your question though.
