Stefan,

the system lsn is stored in the headers of ib_logfiles. A reset command would be nice, but so far the 'inflation' trick has done the job.

You CAN put ibdata files to different disks without a need to use symlinks. You can in

innodb_data_file_path

specify full absolute paths to your ibdata files if you define

innodb_data_home_dir=

as an empty string like I have done above.
