Strange disk usage in mysql datadir (partition)

Hi

I have a setup with two sql servers in a replicated setup.

I started seeing a strange disk usage behavior, suddenly disk usage raises from 65% on the dedicated mysql linux partition to 96%. This happens in minutes (this bar in my disk usage graphs is vertical)

This happens on both master and slave.
The servers are primary running InnoDB databases.

What happens is, that if i restart the mysql instances the disk usage drops back to normal?

This seems strange, but is this normal? This started happening when we changed several 100 databases to InnoDB from MyISAM.
