Let's start by checking whether you really need PARTITIONing.
Please provide the SHOW CREATE TABLE(s) (without FOREIGN KEYs) and tell us how big the table(s) will eventually be.

A Rule of Thumb: Tables smaller than a million rows -- usually not worth PARTITIONing.

There are a very few use cases where PARTITIONing provides any _performance_ benefit; let's discuss your use case.
