Re sharding...
Will you shard on the UUID?
How will you know the UUID?
What do you plan to have to do the redirecting of traffic to the individual servers (shards)?
Will only the one table be sharded? Will you have all the other tables in a single server?
Do you need to collect data from multiple shards?
Will you need to JOIN the sharded table to other table(s)?
If you are going to use UUIDs, at least pack them into BINARY(16). Smaller -> more cacheable -> less I/O --> faster.
Keep in mind that UUIDs are very random, hence tend to make a table I/O bound if it gets too big to be fully cached. Will your Shards have no more data than can fit in RAM?
