I suspect the same thing that you do. The Mac OS upgrade moved me to a case-insensitive platform.
I no longer have the original machine (it died right after I migrated).
I have already tried the steps in the document that you linked. Unfortunately, a dump skips the camelcased tables, even older versions of MySql. And the command line RENAME command throws an error that the destination table name already exists.
I think I will have to find another machine with a case sensitive filesystem and migrate all my databases to the other machine and perform a dump on each database that way.
