Daily backing up around 1 billion records

We are going into an environment with roughly around 10 different shards. Each shard will generate around 100 millions of records daily. The issue now comes about data backup and retention. How best to back up this sort of data on a daily basis. Off course we want to keep this data not on the current machine but other machines. We will doing partition on the data but is it possible to keep more around 100 plus partition will be impacting the performance ?
